2024 Health & Safety Award Recipients Announced!

Forty-eight companies to receive Health & Safety Awards at upcoming Annual General Meeting On April 4 the Hamilton-Halton Construction Association will present members with Safety Awards at their 104th Annual General Meeting & Dinner. The Safety Awards recognize member firms who have achieved an excellent injury/frequency score in 2022/2023 and are awarded based on average hours worked. Forty-eight HHCA members earned an excellent score of 1.0 or less. The awards are sponsored by HHCA member Lawrie Insurance Group. See the complete press release for a complete list of winners. City of Hamilton Exceeds Housing Target, Receives $17.5M!

The City of Hamilton exceeds Housing target, receives $17.5M from Government of Ontario On March 22, the Province of Ontario recognized the City of Hamilton for exceeding the 2023 provincial housing target, with 120 percent of the target achieved in 2023. As a result, the City will receive $17,587,390 in funding through the Province’s Building Faster Fund. This funding was critical in achieving the City’s 2024 approved budget. Slate delivers subdivision plan for Hamilton’s Steelport

The draft plan of subdivision for the Steelport site in Hamilton includes a proposed Lagoonscape that will feature a regenerated biodiverse landscape that doubles as stormwater management infrastructure. Slate Asset Management has announced it has submitted an application for a draft plan of subdivision for its 800-acre Steelport site to the City of Hamilton, unveiling new details for the mixed-use industrial park on the former Stelco lands. The plan includes 684 acres of gross development area, 62 acres of public right-of-way, 91 acres of open space and amenity blocks and 23 acres of water bodies. Stelco Steel Mills will retain 78 acres for its operations. [...]

FirstOntario Centre renovation will kick off multiple project launches Hamilton’s on-again, off-again FirstOntario Centre renovation project is slated to start within three months, with shovels hitting the ground in April or May. PJ Mercanti of the Hamilton Urban Precinct Entertainment Group and Tom Pistore of OVG Canada recently updated HHCA members on plans for the renovation of FirstOntario Centre in downtown Hamilton and redevelopment of the surrounding district. Slate, City of Hamilton, HOPA outline major upcoming projects Slate Asset Management, developer of the 800-acre Steelport multi-use project on Hamilton, Ont.’s waterfront, was a headliner as local builders gathered to scout out project leads at the Hamilton-Halton Construction Association’s annual Construction Forecast presentation recently. Final budget, completion date still uncertain for Hamilton LRT Metrolinx executive told HHCA's Construction Forecast audience last week the agency is making solid progress on its Hamilton LRT project version 2.0 with early works begun and significant details now nailed down, but two big ones still unconfirmed – cost and completion date. Government of Canada support will help produce affordable housing solutions

More affordable (modular) housing coming to Hamilton with the support of the Government of Canada The Government of Canada announced a $2.5-million investment towards the growth of BECC Modular, a manufacturing company providing turn-key modular homes for affordable housing projects and commercial properties. BECC Modular is coming up with innovative and affordable solutions to increase Canadian housing inventory. Through this investment, BECC will adopt more efficient steel frame manufacturing capabilities for modular home construction. As a result, the company is expected to produce up to 2,200 modular structures per year for single and multi-story buildings across Canada and abroad. [...]
