FirstOntario Centre renovation will kick off multiple project launches Hamilton’s on-again, off-again FirstOntario Centre renovation project is slated to start within three months, with shovels hitting the ground in April or May. Final budget, completion date still uncertain for Hamilton LRT Metrolinx executive told HHCA's Construction Forecast audience last week the agency is making solid progress on its Hamilton LRT project version 2.0 with early works begun and significant details now nailed down, but two big ones still unconfirmed – cost and completion date. More affordable (modular) housing coming to Hamilton with the support of the Government of Canada The Government of Canada announced a $2.5-million investment towards the growth of BECC Modular, a manufacturing company providing turn-key modular homes for affordable housing projects and commercial properties. BECC Modular is coming up with innovative and affordable solutions to increase Canadian housing inventory. Through this investment, BECC will adopt more efficient steel frame manufacturing capabilities for modular home construction. HAMILTON, ON – SucroCan Sourcing LLC, a growing integrated sugar refiner, has announced its plans to build Canada’s largest sugar refinery at the Port of Hamilton, Ontario, on lands owned by HOPA Ports (Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority). More Affordable Housing heading to Burlington! On January 15 the Government of Canada and the City of Burlington announced a $21 million agreement to encourage more affordable homes for Burlington, built faster. The announcement was attended by the Honourable Minister Karina Gould, MP for Oakville North – Burlington Pam Damoff, Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and Deputy Mayor of Housing, Burlington Ward 4 Councillor Shawna Stolte. Construction labour pressures ease in November, with notable growth among women Data from Statistics Canada’s November Labour Force Survey (LFS) shows employment pressures gradually easing across the country as the year draws to a close. National, all-industry employment grew by 0.1% for the month, adding 25,000 workers. November marked the second consecutive month in which employment gains have been muted. Meanwhile, the national employment rate, which is the proportion of the working-age population that is employed, fell by 0.1 percentage points for the month. Opioid and Work Data Tool The Opioids and Work Data Tool is an interactive data visualization tool used for exploring data on cases and rates of opioid-related harms occurring among a large group of Ontario workers. The tool includes three dashboards, each displaying data for a different opioid-related harm identified in emergency department and hospitalization records, including poisonings; mental and behavioural disorders; and adverse reactions.
