Wilfred Allan Whelan

Al Whelan is remembered by many. Few of today=s conversations take place, about how construction business was once conducted, without a remark or two about him. Al Whelan=s entire career was with Comstock. From 1947 he was Hamilton Superintendent/General Manager. In 1955 he became Vice President.

In the years following retirement, Al Whelan could recall in great detail, many pieces of relevant information. Such ability was a reflection of his attention to detail and perfection. It was these and other skills which provided with the exceptional leadership Al Whelan demonstrated in his duties with Comstock. Through his years, he was involved with its work at major Ontario and Canadian industries; Stelco, Dofasco, Westing-house Transformer Plant, Hamilton Sewage Treatment Plant, Sir Adam Beck Generating Station, and Ford Motor Company

He was an instrumental for development of good labour relations as a key figure in early negotiations with unions for the electirical and mechanical industry. Al Whelan was HCA 1965f President and an Honourary Life Member.

He was President of the Burlington Rotary Club, a Rotary District Governor, Chairman of Joseph Brant hospital and an original member of the Board of Governors for the Catholic High Schools for the City of Hamilton.
