Ira McDonald Construction Ltd. recently gave a tour of this meaningful project Parishioners at Hamilton, Ont.’s newest Catholic church, St. Catherine of Siena, have flocked to the new 30,000-square-foot structure on Rymal Road in overflow numbers since its official dedication Oct. 22. “It’s packed at the masses on Sunday,” said Father Mark Gatto, first pastor of St. Catherine of Siena. The church replaces two others, Our Lady of Lourdes and Corpus Christi, that were merged by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton. Construction labour pressures ease in November, with notable growth among women Data from Statistics Canada’s November Labour Force Survey (LFS) shows employment pressures gradually easing across the country as the year draws to a close. National, all-industry employment grew by 0.1% for the month, adding 25,000 workers. November marked the second consecutive month in which employment gains have been muted. Meanwhile, the national employment rate, which is the proportion of the working-age population that is employed, fell by 0.1 percentage points for the month. Opioid and Work Data Tool The Opioids and Work Data Tool is an interactive data visualization tool used for exploring data on cases and rates of opioid-related harms occurring among a large group of Ontario workers. The tool includes three dashboards, each displaying data for a different opioid-related harm identified in emergency department and hospitalization records, including poisonings; mental and behavioural disorders; and adverse reactions. Free Silica Control Tool Each year approximately 153,000 Ontario workers are exposed to silica, which can lead to significant health problems, including silicosis, a serious and irreversible lung disease, and lung cancer. The Silica Control Tool is a free resource designed to help Ontario’s construction sector assess whether, and how much, workers are exposed to silica, and develop job-specific exposure control plans to limit the hazard. The City of Hamilton has reached a new major milestone for the highest all-time construction value on record, $2,133,057,915. On October 13, 2023, the City officially hit the $2 billion mark, 40 days earlier than the previous record set in 2021, making it the earliest the City of Hamilton has reached this mark. This is the second time the City has hit the $2 billion milestone. On October 19, 2023, the City broke its all-time construction value record.
