Prompt Payment Ontario Update

Prompt Payment Ontario (PPO) now boasts 38 members, a healthy war chest and a brand new website at

The organization plans to be actively engaged in the Construction Lien Act Review which recently got underway.  PPO Chair, Eryl Roberts met Sharon Vogel and was pleased to learn that the scope of the review is wide open, everything is on the table and that the reviewers have a strong interest in pursuing the prompt payment issues that arose around Bill 69 Prompt Payment Act 2013 which died on the order paper at the end of the last provincial parliament when the general election was called.

The spirits of all prompt payment supporters was buoyed by a recent article in the Toronto Star about the Pan Am soccer stadium in Hamilton in which the Minister of Economic Development Employment and Infrastructure was quoted as saying "We are looking at prompt payment as a potential policy. In fact, we've got a study going on now through the Attorney General office into prompt payment and the Construction Lien Act. That began about a month ago." We do have challenges and we have for generations now in the construction sector where a general contractor may be slow in paying their subcontractors. It is an issue of fairness. It is an issue between the subcontractor and the general contractor..however we are looking at the issue."
